There may actually be a brilliance to how bad this logo is.
Ask yourself this question: How many sports teams in North America do
you think there are named the Bulls or some variant of it? It's not
really a feasible question to answer when you consider all the high
school teams, beer league teams, and so forth, but you can actually get
a reasonably accurate answer if you restrict yourself to professional
teams and universities. I spent way too much time looking into this,
and I was able to find twenty current teams including this one. And
there's not a lot of originality in the logos. All of them, with the
exception of los Toros de Tijuana, look really similar to one another.
The TJ monogram logo is an uninspired logo, but it is definitely
distinct from all the others. That's worth something, right?
Maybe, but then again, maybe not. Of course the other nineteen logos
all look similar, because they all feature a bull in them. And there's
a reason the other nineteen teams put bulls in their logo, which is that
that's what the teams are named after. If you don't want to put
a bull in your logo, maybe don't name your team after them!
And it's not like it would be difficult to add a reference to bulls
here. Really all you have to do it add horns to the T in the
logo and voilà, it's a bull. It would probably look a little
cheesy, but there would at least be some indication of the team's
name.
So no, this isn't brilliant at all. It's stupid. The other nineteen
teams put some representation of a bull into their logo for a very good
reason. Join the club, guys.
