Fredericksburg looks like it could be an interesting place to visit, especially if you're into history. It's got colonial history (George Washington lived just outside of town when he was a boy), early American history (James Monroe worked as a lawyer there early in his career), and Civil War history (it was the site of two battles). It's a college town, home to the University of Mary Washington (named after George's mother). It's located on the Rappahannock River at the fall line, so it's got some nice scenery. It doesn't look like a terribly exciting place, but it does look interesting.
Given all this, it's a bit disappointing that the baseball team's name and logo are so uninteresting.
I suppose I can forgive the name to an extent. Nationals is not a bad name for a city which is so close (about 50 miles/75 km) to the nation's capital and has a strong connection to two early presidents. But of course it's still just their parent team's name, and of course that parent team is very near.
And the logo is just a knock-off of the parent team's logo: they replaced the W with an F, replaced Washington with Fredericksburg, and then decided to add baseball stitching to the circle for no good reason.
I suppose it makes sense in a way. It's hard to come up with a really good logo that represents Nationals iconically, which is probably why none of Washington's logos have done it. And at least there's not some goofy cartoon animal or anything like that. I can't really say this is a bad logo.
But it's certainly not a good one. Certainly not very interesting. And I just feel like a city with so many interesting things about it deserves beter.
